Theme: Richness of Ecuador

How one could get to be in the middle of all "etnos" Ecuadorian richness in just 33m2? Artist Simón Ordóñez has synthesized these multiethnic and plural cultural conditions and attributes of the human beings and nature of Ecuador by the use of a variety of materials for building furniture and decorations. You fill find the strong and light colored olive tree merged with the chonta palm which is delicate, thus very rigid and much darker, and the palm tree together with tagua, leather and fabrics made from noble raw materials.

Two Queen sized beds, a comfortable sofa and a relaxing balcony are waiting for you in this bright, warm and cozy suite, decorated with portraits of individuals representing the different groups of people living in the four regions. Perhaps in your next visit you will explore yourself the diverse cultural labyrinths traced here.

This suite was worked by Artist Alexandra Moshenek, from Quito, specialized in pieces made from molten glass. In 1995 Alexandra graduated from the Metropolitan Institute of Design in Quito with a qualification in Graphic Design and Visual Arts. She also specialized on Design and Processing of Molten Glass.

Highlights on the Utilitarian Art

To analyze the culture of Ecuador, consideration should be given to its regional diversity with very rich specificities and to its ethnic diversity marked by the presence of mestizo, indigenous, afro Ecuadorian and white.

The chonta tree. One still use practically every part of it: the delicious fruit that resembles chestnut, the wood used for arrows and lances (cerbatanas), as well as material for walls and floors in native houses.

The palm tree. Leaves from young palms are sometimes used for roofs, but - more importantly – are the source of palmitos (palm hearts), which are used in gourmet cuisine.
