    Quito in the world press

    2013/04/10

Quito, its tourist attractions, history and traditions is news in the international media, product of 46 press trips carried out by Tourism Journalists who arrived in the capital in 2012. 150 journalists visited us from USA, UK, Germany, Spain, Canada, Argentina, Colombia, and more.

The journalists who visited analyzed and experienced the diversity of this ancient, cosmopolitan, and colonial city and came to their conclusions. "Quito, Among the 20 best destinations in the world," "Amazing Quito", "Three Perfect Days in Quito" and other flattering headlines have reached our ears, making Quiteños proud of their heritage.

One of the most impressive stories came from National Geographic Traveller, in its special BEST OF THE WORLD edition, which nominated the city as one of the must-see destinations for 2013, together with another 19 additional destinations worldwide. Traveler highlighted Quito as "a fresh face of the historic city of Ecuador" and highlights the existence of ancient crafts, the revitalization of the historic center and the activation of age-old La Ronda.

European Media, Latin American and US newspapers also spoke of Quito with grace and admiration: El País, Berliner Zeitung, The New York Times, Página 12, El Tiempo, DO Grande ABC, and magazines such as Hemispheres and Outpost revealed to the world the stories, places and people of Quito.

International promotion and other strategies have brought in 519,554 tourists visiting Quito in 2012, representing an increase of 7% compared to the 484,370 visitors that arrived in 2011.

Among the main reasons for visiting are tourism, business activities and events. Arrival data has shown that most passengers come from North America (39.7%), the Andean countries (20.2%) and Europe (18.5%).

In 2013, Quito will continue to promote itself as a world-class destination through press trips that will bring around the same number of journalists as last year. In these early months of 2013, Quito is still making news in the media such as The Washington Post, Travel and Leisure, Sky Airlines, La Devi, Lonely Planet, El Mundo and others.
